As someone who loves crafts and has a keen interest in interior decorating ideas, I stumbled upon a DIY photo transfer using Acacia wood. Now I am no wood expert or anything but I did some research and for some reason or the other, Acacia wood was at the top of the list for doing this project! So here’s my story about successwith this project. There were no games played here and I stuck with it until I perfected it.
So first things first, supplies! You will need a photo that will work with the size of the wood that you choose, Then you get your picture printed out on wax paper. As forthe wood type, it’s really up to you and what is accessible to you.I mean it could be a reclaimed butcher block if you want.Myonly recommendating would bethat the photo’s dimensions fill out all or most of the space on the wood surface or you may find that your project looks unfinished. Grab some gel medium like Liquitex, modge podge (this is basically a sealer, glue and finish all in one), a ruler or anything with a straight edge (this will be able to get air bubbles out and flatten the photo on the wood surface),a paintbrush and a wet cloth.
Let’s begin our photo transfer! On a flat surface cover the entire photo with the gel medium using your paintbrush. Then, gently flip the picture (picture side down in the center of the wood). Use your flat edge tool and smooth it out in inward to outward motionsuntil the picture is flat and free of air bubbles. Wait at least 12 hours because you want it to set and make sure that the colors adhere to your wood surface perfectly.Don’t rush it now.
Next, we will remove the paper from the wood using a wet cloth, make sure the cloth is not dripping wet, justwet enough that the paper is damp. Then, you start gently rubbing in circles, the paper should start to peel off and reveal your photo transfer.
After all of the paper has been removed and the wood is dry again, paint your modge podge finish over the photo to seal in the color; there are many types of finishes, so again choose one that works for your project! Lastly, you can adorn your photo with things like letters, gems…etc.
Then when all is done and your happy with your results, you can sell it or even justgift wrap it and make it a personalized present!
