I am convinced that nobody hates to hear a door slam more than I do. My kids and my husband would go in and out that back door and I would know every time because of the noise that would follow. So I decided to do some research online and see how I could stop that door from slamming off of its hinges (awesome home ideas). The first place I checked was Pinterest; Pinterest home ideas page, gave some excellent tips and tricks to alleviate the problem (home ideas). The rubber band was the star of the home design blogs just like the Pinterest pages(house and home ideas), and I decided to give this rubber band a chance to show me what it could actually do (crafty home ideas).
I bought a bag of rubber bands in assorted sizes because I wasn’t sure what would work for my door handles. I needed to play with the options in regards to width and amount of stretch. That means for this hack; you will need a rubber band that is a bit wide regarding thickness (DIY home hacks). Okay, now this is the quickest DIY home hack that you will ever perform, literally seconds people. Just choose the rubber band that works for you and stretch it across one handle to the other. Be sure to keep the bolt free from the rubber bands, since we don’t want the door not to be able to close; we just want some cushioning to prevent the slamming of the door when anyone comes in or goes out. Finally, I wanted to see if this thing would work, so I called out to one of the kids to call their Dad in from outside, and people I am happy to report I didn’t know when they did it or when dear hubby came into the house. The rubber band trick worked!
Now, this blog is also about securing your doors from break-ins as well, many times we think that the doors are secure when in fact the thing is being held up by some tiny screws, and the hinges have zero reinforcements. So I wanted to tell you all about a kit that I bought called the Easy Armor Door Reinforcer at home depot, it could be a bit pricey so you could shop around until you find one that works with the money you have to spend. This kit was easy to figure out, and it was straightforward to install, all you really need is a power tool to help get those screws in. The first thing I did was locate the middle hinge and remove the screws (they were laughable). Next, I put in the more extended screws over the hinge shield that offers way more resistance if someone should try to kick in your doors. It is also tough and time consuming for a thief to attempt to remove. You can check out the video I posted about it and tell me what you think about my door solutions in the comments section below.
